The Dream
I am in Jeff's (my boss's) house with my best friend, Kathy.Â
Jeff and his wife and daughter are going out and Kathy and I
are housesitting.
Kathy and I are sitting, talking on the couch. I look up and
see smoke near the window curtain next to a Christmas tree.
 I say, "What's that?"Â
She says, "What?"
I say, "I think it's smoke."
She says, "No, I'm sure it's not."
We continue talking. In a short while I see flames. We run
out of the house. Kathy calls for help on the cell phone and
then I call Jeff.
Jeff and his family come home, the fire is out. A firemen
tells him that the fire was caused by the Christmas tree. And
his reply is, "It's a good thing someone was home."
We all go into the house. I wake up.
The Symbols
A dream about your boss is usually not about your boss but
about yourself -- each one of us has a part of ourself that is
(either consciously or unconsciously) in control of the other
parts. The boss is referring to this part of yourself.Â
Friends in our dreams are usually a projection of an aspect of
ourselves. A house is a symbol for the body or the "house of
the soul". When I think of smoke, the first thought that
comes to mind is "Where there's smoke there's fire,"Â an
indication of a warning. Fire symbolizes many things,
including passion and sexuality, in this case, it is a symbol of
transformation. The Christmas tree is obviously a spiritual
symbol.
The interpretation
I am in my boss's house indicating that I am in the body of my
soul and I am in control of the situation that the dream is
referring to. My best friend is with me, so I know that I am not
alone. I see smoke ( a warning) but I do not act on it. When I
see the flames we (again I am not alone) call for help and I
alert my boss (myself) that his (my) house is on fire. The
firemen come, put out the fire and advise my boss (me) that
the Christmas tree (spirit) was the cause of the fire.
This was not a difficult dream for me to interpret because I
have recently begun more "soul work," which I used to do on
a regular basis. This inner work has been in the form of
meditation, dream work (I stopped paying attention for a while)
and brainwave entrainment CD's hoping to lead me to Lucid
Dreaming or Out of Body Experiences – neither of which I
have been successful at yet (you'll know about it when I do.)
So the dream is telling me that I was neglecting my inner work
and I finally took action when the house went on fire. The
firemen came, put out the fire and said I did the right thing by
calling for help and advising myself of the situation. And
above all, Kathy, my best friend was their to tell me that I am
not alone, the easiest thing of all to forget. I know that I have
someone watching over me and they listened when I called
for help.
My Action Plan
My action plan is obvious – continue with the inner work
and never forget that I am not alone.
